International Courier comparison and web booking site

We were asked by an international trading company to provide the intelligent backend solution for a Courier comparison and job-booking website. They had already appointed a highly respected design studio for the front-end design and recognised the need for the expertise of a specialist logistics software developer to provide the back end capabilities. The client required that each visitor to the site received the fullest and most accurate information and that the service and price offered were the most appropriate for all concerned. It was made very clear that they wanted to be the best by virtue of the quality of the site, the accuracy of the information, the competitive pricing and level of service.

We were appointed to supply the backend intelligence and the interfaces with the carriers. This involved the management of the service offering to Adhoc, Regular and Account customers including the Customer Relationship Management (CRM), the management of the relationship with the Carriers including system integrations and data exchange, summarised as follows:

  • Maintain client consignment buying prices and client selling prices
  • Maintain customer account details and consignment history
  • Individual customer consignment pricing based on agreed determinates
  • Job booking process for adhoc and also regular volume customers
  • Status updates and event management
  • Provide tracking to the front end and to users via Texts/email alerts
  • Job closure and customer invoicing
  • Carrier invoice reconciliation and discrepancy reporting
  • Revenue and Cost analysis

We jointly produced a detailed specification detailing the services, processes and functionalities required. We then configured the Orion StarSHIP module to incorporate the necessary features and added elements of StarACT (Finance management). The solution was then linked to the front end to provide a seamless complete solution. Our client is the premier Carrier comparison and booking site and we are all very proud of the roles played to enable this level of success
